Football & Cheer
Does my child need state issued identification card to play football or cheer?
ALL FOOTBALL PLAYERS will need a state issued ID to play. Birth Certificates will not be accepted. Visit www.dps.texas.gov for requirements and application.
Cheerleaders will need to provide their birth certificates.
There will be a league wide CERTIFICATION DAY on August 3, 2019. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. Tackle players must bring their state issued ID, cheerleaders and flag football players must bring their birth certificates.
My child has never played select flag/tackle football before will this be an issue?
No. Our coaches will evaluate each child fairly at tryouts. Each child will be evaluated based on their individual and team skills.
What is the time commitment of playing HUYSO football?
- Weekly workouts and conditioning will be held Sunday afternoons beginning in March 4th - June 24th from 2-4 pm with the exception of holidays.
- There is a weekly time commitment of 4 - 6 hours of actual practice plus games.
- During the summer, HUYSO will practice 3 days per week. Once school begins practices may go down to 2 days a week, however this will depend on the development of the team.
Who can sign up for HUYSO?
- Youth ages 4 – 12 are eligible to register for FALL SEASON.
- There are no ball carrying weight restrictions for each age group. Our age divisions are as follows:
6U - Must be 6 or under as of JULY 31st 2019
8U - Must be 8 or under as of JULY 31st 2019
10U - Must be 10 or under as of JULY 31st 2019
12U - Must be 12 or under as of JULY 31st 2019
Cheer follows the same age requirements.
How do I register?
Registration is listed on our website, hornsunited.com. Registration will open March 1st - September 1st (unless divisions are filled prior to). Keep watch on our Facebook Page and our website for more details.

How much does it cost to play for the Horns United Youth Sports Organization (HUYSO)?
Football registration is $200 6U Flag, $200 Tackle 8U/10U/12U. Your registration will cover the following:
- Game Uniform 1-Jersey, 1 Pant
- Compression Undershirt for game day
- Helmet Decals
- League insurance for games and practices
Cheer registration is $210. Your registration will cover the following:
- Cheer Uniform (shell, skirt, bloomers, socks, pom poms, 1 bow)
- League insurance for practices, games, and competitions
- Cheerleader Certification fee
What is the Horns United Youth Sports Organization Refund Policy?
- 100% Before April 1st
- April 1st – May 15th 50% Refund
- After May 15th 0% NO EXCEPTIONS
- Equipment: FULL refund Before June 1st.
Do you offer payment plans?
Payment plans are available in 2 installments. Registration fees must be paid no later than June 15, 2019.
EQUIPMENT
Will I need to purchase additional equipment?
Football: Yes. You, the parent, will have to provide the following:
- Shoulder Pads
- Helmet* (team order)
- Practice Pants
- Practice Jersey* (team order)
- Cleats
- Mouth Piece
*When you register your child, you can pay for your child’s helmet. This fee is DUE JUNE 15TH in order to have them back in time for practice.
Cheer: Yes. You, the parent, will have to provide cheer shoes for you cheerleader.
How much does football equipment cost?
All equipment can be found at our sponsor Dick’s Sporting Goods or any athletic store. Prices may vary depending on where you purchase.

What color Helmet should I purchase?
Our helmet is TEXAS ORANGE and is special order through our Riddell rep. HUYSO will order the helmets in a group order at $90 per helmet. If you wish to order your own helmet through a different vendor, please consult with HUYSO prior to doing so.
New for 2019: Flag players are required to wear a soft shell helmet. More info will be given at at later date.
TEAMS
How many players on a team?
Teams will have a minimum of 16 players and a maximum of 36 players.
How many cheerleaders will be on a squad?
Squads will be made of a maximum of 15.
PRACTICES
How many times a week do the teams practice?
During the summer, HUYSO will practice 3 days per week. Once school begins practices may go down to 2 days a week, however this will depend on the development of the team.

GAMES
Where are HUYSO Football games usually played?
Games are played on Saturdays. Regular season consists of 8 games ( 4 Home, 4 Away). All regular season games will be played in the Dallas Metroplex.
Do I have to pay admission fees?
Yes, there will be admission fees for games. Admission fees for regular season games will be $5 for ages 13+ and $3 for ages 4 - 12, FREE for 3 and under. Post season games will be up to $10.
Does everyone get to play in games?
There is no guarantee of minimum playing time. Playing time is earned at practice. However, we do our best to allow each kid an opportunity to play in every game.
Are your coaches certified?
Yes, all of our coaches are USA Football certified, and attend various coaches’ clinics during the off season such as Dallas Cowboys Coaches Clinic and Glazier Clinic.
